Yesterday, Sunday 6th September, we harvested the first of our hop plants, the Yeoman variety. I think in previous years we’ve harvested at the end of August, so this was a little later than usual.
We ended up with 117g of wet hops, so again I think we wound up with broadly half what we have had in previous years. The multiple heatwaves and lack of water are probably to blame – I did manage some watering during those intense periods of heat, but probably not nearly enough.
Still, the hops are in the dehydrator, and we’ll get them vacuum packed for future use! We still have First Gold hops to harvest, but they need a few more days yet!
