Three Sisters and some Oca

Well, Arwen and I took advantage of some glorious weather and a bit of free time to get the Three Sisters companion plants put into the allotment.

It’s a little early for corn to go out, as most sources suggest late May or early June for sweetcorn in the north of the UK, but it’s an absolute scorcher here today, and is due to hit 30°C on Leeds next week, so it seems worth the risk. (Cue hailstorms and hard frosts!)

Along with the sweetcorn, we planted out pumpkins, butternut squash and a singular dwarf bean – we’ll need to get more of those planted as soon as possible!

Just up from the Three Sisters we’ve planted nine Oca plants: three red, three white, and three golden yellow. If all goes well I’m hoping to harvest some Oca for Christmas Dinner this year!

We also did some weeding around the potatoes, around the carrots, and around the bathtub of water at the bottom of the plot.

I deserve a gold star, but will settle for a pint!
